Question
Is it permissible to combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers while traveling?
Answer
Yes — according to the majority of scholars, a traveler (musafir) who has embarked on a journey of a recognized travel distance is permitted to combine Zuhr with Asr, and Maghrib with Isha, either at the time of the earlier prayer (jam taqdim) or the later one (jam takhir), for ease during travel. This concession (rukhsah) is established from the practice of the Prophet ﷺ on his journeys. It applies specifically to travel; it is not a general permission for combining prayers without a valid reason such as travel, illness, or genuine hardship recognized by the Shari'ah.
